CMMI. The Capability Maturity Model

The Capability Maturity Model is known as CMM or latterly CMMI. It is intended to help organizations identify best practices and enhance the maturity of their processes, and has a strong bias towards software development and IT.

CMM was originaly developed by the Software Engineering Institute, the SEI. Indeed, it was commonly prefixed with 'SW' to indicate its software origins.

It is widely used, particularly in the software development niche. It's deployment is international.
